Getting Started

Everything you need to know before installing Retrace.

What is Retrace?

Retrace is an inventory tracking app for Shopify merchants. It monitors changes to your stock levels over time, detects anomalies, and gives you a timeline view of changes that happened to any SKU.

Which Shopify plans are supported?

Retrace works with all Shopify plans: Basic, Shopify, Advanced, and Plus. Some features, such as multi-location tracking, require specific Shopify API access levels that come with Advanced and Plus plans.

How long does setup take?

Most stores are fully connected in under five minutes. After installing from the Shopify App Store, Retrace automatically loads your inventory with no manual configuration required.

Do I need a developer to install Retrace?

No. Retrace installs directly from the Shopify App Store with a single click. There is no code to write or theme to edit.

Plans & Billing

Understand what's included in each plan and how billing works.

What happens if I exceed 500 SKUs on the Standard plan?

We don’t enforce price limits at the moment. However, we monitor usage, and if your store exceeds pre-set plan limits, we reserve the right to restrict service until the store admin upgrades to a higher plan.

What's included in free trial?

You get full access to all features for 14 days, no strings attached.

Do you offer annual billing?

Not yet. All prices are monthly, but we will launch annual billing in the future.

Can I change plans at any time?

Yes. Upgrades take effect immediately and are prorated for the remainder of your billing cycle. Downgrades take effect at the start of your next billing cycle.

What happens to my data if I cancel?

Your data is retained for 48 hours after cancellation. After 48 hours, all data is permanently deleted in compliance with the Shopify App Store policies.

Security & Privacy

How Retrace handles your store's data.

What data does Retrace access from my Shopify store?

Retrace requests read-only access to your inventory levels, locations, products and variants, as well as orders, fulfillments, and transfers. We never read customer data, payment information, or order details beyond what is needed to attribute stock changes.

Is my data shared with third parties?

No. Your inventory or personal data data is never sold or shared with third parties. We use infrastructure providers that are bound by strict data processing agreements.

Is Retrace SOC 2 compliant?

Retrace is not SOC 2 compliant, and there’s currently no plan to pursue any SOC 2 audit.

Inventory Tracking

How Retrace monitors, records, and surfaces inventory changes.

What counts as a drift event?

A drift event is any unexpected change in inventory quantity that doesn't correspond to a recorded sale, return, or manual adjustment. Common causes include Shopify sync delays, third-party app conflicts, and fulfillment errors.

Does Retrace support multiple warehouse locations?

Yes. Unlike other inventory tracking apps, Retrace doesn’t limit your location tracking. All plans supports unlimited locations, including warehouses, retail stores, and third-party fulfillment centers.

How often is inventory data refreshed?

Retrace listens to Shopify webhooks in real time. On average, changes are recorded within seconds of occurring in your store.

Integrations & API

Connecting Retrace to your existing tools and workflows.

Does Retrace integrate with 3PLs or ERPs?

Retrace reads inventory state from Shopify. If your 3PL or ERP syncs inventory back to Shopify, Retrace will observe and record those changes automatically. Direct 3PL and ERP integrations are available on the Enterprise plan.

Is there a public API?

At the moment, Retrace doesn’t offer API access, and there is no plan to provide it. However, this might change. Please reach out to support@useretrace.com to discuss API access.

Can I receive alerts in Slack or email?

Alerts functionality is not yet available but it's on the short-term roadmap.
